REAL Programme
Leeds Reach was successful in its application to become one of the ‘Real’ delivery partners.
REAL is a programme set up by Igen Ltd which aims to meet the needs of young people within the target cohort of N.E.E.T (not in education, employment or training) who experience barriers to entering learning opportunities currently across the 14-19 age group. The Leeds Reach programme will specifically target those young people in Key stage 4 who you believe would benefit from a bespoke package of support helping to prevent them from becoming N.E.E.T.
The Leeds Reach ‘Real’ programme
Leeds Reach will deliver a 12 week one day per week (9.30am – 3.00pm Fridays) programme for young people who would benefit from a tailored package of support. Thereafter we will follow up our support for at least 8 weeks. I envisage that a typical programme for identified young people could be:
School: Core subjects (3 days per week)
Vocational training: (1 day per week)
Leeds Reach ‘Real’ programme: (1 day per week – Personal Social Development)
Our programme will specifically focus upon Employability and Functional skills, CV writing, Mock interviews, visits to industry, Apprenticeship briefings, Guest speakers and wrap around I.A.G support. The programme will be accredited with young people being able to achieve a Level 1 or 2 qualifications in the courses listed above and others. For those young people in Year II a progression route would be school (dependant upon the time of year) or enrolment onto an Apprenticeship, Further education or employment. For Years 10’s a progression would be sustained attendance and support in school or alternative provision.
The referral form and programme distinctly differs from the Leeds Reach ‘Re engagement’ programme and despite the differences we envisage that this programme could provide through care and continued support for those young people previously known to the service who may require additional/continued support around future aspirations and goal setting.

Potential start dates: 16th or 23rd September 2011 (possibly earlier dependant upon referrals)
Available places: 8 – offered at first to our existing partners and then other schools located in Inner North East & North West
Process: For fairness we’d prefer to allocate 2-3 places per school however if referrals aren’t forthcoming we can allocate more places to any requesting school.
Costs: Free
This programme is subsidised by the European Social Fund which is extremely stringent and in the main outcome focussed however, there are no additional costs to you but we strongly recommend that you view this programme as an additional support mechanism for any appropriate young person but that this also dovetails with the Leeds Reach KS3 ‘Re engagement’ programme.
