About Us
Working together to create opportunities for young people.
Leeds REACH is a cutting edge voluntary organisation delivering services to young people who, for conflicting reasons, are facing difficulties in mainstream secondary school in Leeds. The project was originated in 1994 and was endorsed by the local community, families and the schools of which it serves. The original intention for the project was to support children and young people who were truanting or facing long term school exclusion however, the project has developed to include holiday and mentoring type programmes for all of its clients and others requiring the service.
The aim of the service is to offer a ‘turnaround’ day time educational provision for up to 12 pupils at any one time. The pupils of predominantly, but not exclusively, African Caribbean and dual heritage backgrounds are offered a varied curriculum over 12 weeks including Open College Network accreditation, Duke of Edinburgh Awards in addition to English and Maths tuition. The service also assists them to steer away from drugs and criminal activity and provide them with the theoretical and practical skills to help them counteract the stigma of racism and social exclusion.
